AGE GROUPS
The nursery is registered by the Care Standards Inspectorate
for Wales which entitles us to have three groups of children.
Babies (birth-2 years old)
Babies divided into two groups: Mobile
Babies and Non-Mobile
Babies.
The non-mobile and younger mobile babies follow a flexible routine
depending on each baby’s individual needs with regard
to feeding, sleeping, nappy changing and stimulative play. Older
babies also have flexible routines but they naturally begin
to develop daily patterns usually centred on mealtimes, sleep
times, nappy changing etc. By the time babies move into the
toddler unit they are capable and ready to accept more structured
routines. They still have lots of free play but there are times
set aside during the day when the children are encouraged to
learn new skills such as painting, sand and water play, listening
to stories etc.

Pre’school (3-5 years old)
The toddler and pre-school day is divided into a morning
session and afternoon session. Activities are carried out
throughout
the day with children stopping
for mid-morning, lunchtime and mid-afternoon breaks. Toddlers are encouraged
to take a nap or rest after lunch.
When the toddlers move to Pre-school they are well accomplished
in basic skills. Many more educational activities are introduced
into the daily routine, which is structured to prepare children
in readiness for the time they leave nursery for school.
Back to Top of Page Children with Special Needs
Our philosophy is that all children ‘with or without special needs’ should
have the opportunity to develop their full potential alongside other children
in an educational environment. We therefore welcome the opportunity to discuss
with parents of children with special needs the ways in which our nursery might
be able to meet the child’s individual special educational needs, and
aid integration into the nursery.
