Welcome to Sunnybank Day Nursery
(established in 1990)
The Sunnybank Story
Sunnybank comprises of three nurseries, Newport , Chepstow and Trethomas. Our first nursery was established back in 1990, close to the city centre of Newport. It started off as a small nursery on the lower level of our family home. But before long, it grew so large that my family was forced to relocate so that the entire building could be dedicated to Sunnybank Day Nursery.
After a few years, we moved the whole nursery to an even better building just a couple of houses down the street. It was a wonderful old building that was previously used as a nursing home. It had great bones, but needed an enormous amount of work done to it. The work was finally completed and the doors opened to the children in 2002. Today we are proud to say that it is a beautiful, thriving nursery with a capacity of 71 children.
Next came our Chepstow nursery. Back in 2004, I was introduced to a building in the heart of Chepstow that I fell in love with. It was an old abandoned building that had previously been used as a Victorian work house, then a hospital, followed by Local Authority offices for social workers. As soon as I saw it, I could picture children running around. Again, it needed an enormous amount of renovation work which included the addition of a whole new floor! We opened in 2005 and all the hard work has paid off. It is a really lovely, bright, spacious environment for 89 children to learn and play in.
Then most recently, in October 2006, we added a third nursery to our Sunnybank family, in Trethomas when we purchased an existing nursery business operating under a different name. It was a wonderful building in a great location.
However, the building was in great need of TLC. In the summer of 2007 the builders started work to join some rooms and divide some others. But it soon became clear that a lot more than TLC was needed. It ended up being a major renovation project, but one that was necessary in order to make the building a safe place for the children and nursery nurses to spend their days in.
We are very thrilled to say that the work is now complete! We are very proud of our new nursery and would be delighted to show you around at any time. In fact we are having an OPEN DAY on 28th JUNE at 3-5pm. We'd love to see you there!
Now we would like to make some public thank yous......
We would like to thank our Sunnybank parents from Trethomas for all their amazing support and patience throughout the building work. The work took much longer than planned and we are eternally grateful that, despite some rough times, they trusted us to provide their children with a safe and clean environment in which to learn and play.
Thanks also to all the nursery nurses who continued to provide excellent care, even during moments of large scale disruption. We are very lucky to have you! We could not have done it without you.
Also a big thank you to CSSIW inspectors for the full support that they have shown us throughout this whole project. We were able to work together to come up with creative ways to enable the nursery to remain open, whilst keeping the issue of safety at the forefront. Their support has been invaluable.
Thank you for visiting our nursery website! You are equally welcome to visit any of the nurseries.
